What are RSS feeds? What is RSS?

RSS is a data format for syndicating information on the internet.  It allows websites to summarize information for subscribers in a digestible and logical format.  A feed delivers linked headlines to a feed reader (or “news aggregator”). RSS is an XML-based (eXtensible Markup Language) format for content distribution that includes headlines, summaries and links.

Download a feed reader

The first thing you will need is a feed reader (or “news aggregator”).  This is a free and lightweight software that allows you to read your RSS subscriptions.  Most feed readers are free to download.

Four of the most popular feed readers are listed below. Download a reader or select a “How to” document for step-by-step instructions on how to download the reader and subscribe to Thomson Carswell RSS feed.
