Some of the OHS-related highlights from the Saskatchewan Employment Act include
- The Saskatchewan Employment Act came into force in late April 2014, following extensive consultation processes during 2012 and 2013
- The OHS-related provisions within the Saskatchewan Employment Act are included in five parts of the Act, most importantly under Part III of the Act, where key OHS duties are set out – and updated – for employers workers, supervisors, contractors, prime contractors, owners, suppliers, and self-employed persons
- The Saskatchewan Employment Act brings forward most aspects of the former OHS Act, while the OHS Regulations still remain in force, now under the Saskatchewan Employment Act

A new Section 3-13 of the Saskatchewan Employment Act
places OHS duties upon prime contractors at certain multiple employer worksites, in the construction, forestry and oil & gas sectors.
As noted in the HANDI-GUIDE to Saskatchewan's OH & S Legislation
, the OHS (Prime Contractor) Regulations (associated with section 3-13 of the Act) are not in force until January 1, 2015.
Under Section 3-13, a prime contractor must be designated if there are 10 or more self-employed persons or workers under the direction of two or more employers. The requirement to designate a prime contractor applies only to three main industries: Construction (dwellings that have four units or more); Forestry; and Oil & Gas.Learn more about Summary Offence Tickets
Another important part of the OHS regulatory framework is the Summary Offences Procedure Regulation, 2013.
The power to issue Summary Offence Tickets came into force as of July 1, 2014. Tables 49 and 50 of this regulation list the types of contraventions for which Summary Tickets can be issued under the Saskatchewan Employment Act
