Credentials: Kenneth M. Tessis, B.A., CA·CIRP, FCAM, is President of Soberman Isenbaum Colomby Tessis Inc. and partner/leader of the insolvency and restructuring practice of Soberman LLP. He is a chartered accountant and has been designated by the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants as a Specialist in Insolvency and Restructuring. Mr. Tessis is also a Fellow Certified Administrative Manager and Trustee in Bankruptcy. Mr. Tessis has more than 30 years of professional experience in insolvency and is highly regarded for his strategic insight and technical expertise. Mr. Tessis has lectured at major financial institutions, the Canada Revenue Agency, law firms and professional associations. He is also active in the Canadian Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals (CAIRP) and an executive board member of the Ontario Association. Mr. Tessis recently chaired the CAIRP Working Group, which provided comments to the federally mandated Personal Insolvency Task Force on proposed amendments to the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act. He was formerly a member of the OIPA/CBAO Judicial Liaison Committee, which dealt with the need for additional judicial resources within the Toronto Bankruptcy Court system. Mr. Tessis is co-author of Identifying and Advising Businesses in Trouble, Restructuring and Accounting for Businesses in Trouble, and Canadian Guide to Troubled Businesses and Bankruptcies.

Jerrard B. Gaertner, SB, CA•CIRP, CISA, ISP, CIA, is Senior Vice President of Soberman Isenbaum Colomby Tessis Inc., the insolvency and restructuring division of Soberman LLP. He is a chartered accountant and has been designated by the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants as a Specialist in Insolvency and Restructuring. Mr. Gaertner is also a Certified Information Systems Auditor, Certified Internal Auditor and Trustee in Bankruptcy. He is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a Diplomat of McGill University (Accountancy). Mr. Gaertner’s major areas of practice include restructuring professional services and technology firms, identifying and disposing of intellectual property assets, insolvency tax law and tax-assisted corporate re-organization, debt compromise via capital restructuring and mediating insolvencies in the midst of acrimonious matrimonial proceedings. He has extensive experience with forensic investigations and tracing offshore assets and manages some of the firm’s largest and most complex insolvency files. Mr. Gaertner has lectured publicly and at major financial institutions, the Canada Revenue Agency, professional organizations, law firms and the Ontario Bar Association. He is the only trustee to have served on the national editorial board of Butterworths’ National Creditor Debtor Review. Mr. Gaertner is co-author of Carswell’s Identifying and Advising Businesses in Trouble, Restructuring and Accounting for Businesses in Trouble and Canadian Guide to Troubled Businesses and Bankruptcies.
