Credentials: Robert McMechan obtained his B.A. (1973) and LL.B. (1977) from the University of Manitoba, and LL.M. (Tax Law)(2007) from Osgoode Hall Law School. He was called to the Manitoba Bar in 1978 and to the Ontario Bar in 1987. Mr. McMechan has 30 years of taxation law, tax dispute resolution and tax litigation experience, including extensive transfer pricing experience as an advisor, instructor and litigator. He has been a Senior Rulings Officer at Revenue Canada and a General Counsel in the Tax Litigation Section of the Department of Justice. Mr. McMechan has also been a co-author of "Tax Court Practice" since 1990, and is a frequent speaker on taxation law topics. Formerly co-chair of OBA Tax Section.
Gordon Bourgard, LL.B., LL.M., is a tax litigation lawyer in the Department of Justice. He was called to the Bars of Alberta and Ontario in 1979 and New York in 1982. He has appeared on a variety of tax files in the Tax Court, Federal Court of Appeal and Supreme Court of Canada. Mr. Bourgard has been an instructor at the Law Society of Upper Canada Continuing Legal Education and Advocates’ Society seminars on tax litigation, and is co-author of Tax Court Practice.
