Here is a list of new features or enhancements that have been recently made to Criminal Spectrum:

  • Quick Print Document icon - This icon () allows users to quickly print the document they are viewing, as an alternative to using the Print/Save/Email options box ().(January, 2012)

  • The Print, Save and Email functionality has been enhanced so users will be able to print, save or email the Hit List (with or without words around hits), print, save or email just the summary/headnote or note up of a case, highlight search terms in the output and select a cover page (with notes) for the output. A single icon ( ) has replaced the six print, save and email icons that were in the Navigation Bar, and the three icons that were at the top of the Hit List. A new icon ( ) allows users to add check boxes to the Table of Contents in order to select documents for output. More details are available in the Print/Save/Email Options section on the revised Help page.
  • Two New Search Templates Added – A Case Summaries Topical Index Search and a Commentary Search have been added to Criminal Spectrum. These searches offer greater flexibility for finding content than the Simple Searches, which have been removed. In addition, the following searches have been renamed: “Advanced Case Law Search” to “Case Law Search”, “Advanced Legislation Search” to “Legislation Search” and “Advanced Custom Search” to “Custom Content Search”. The removal of the Simple Searches made the use of the term “Advanced” redundant. The functions of these searches have not changed. The buttons on the Home page have been rearranged to standardize them with other Canada Law Book research services.
  • Diamond images have been added allowing you to quickly see the most important decisions on your Hit List. The decisions with the are reported decisions from Canadian Criminal Cases and Dominion Law Reports and include the headnotes.
  • Full text of civil (non-criminal law) cases cited in our expert commentary. These cases are accessible via links from the case citation or searching using our search templates.
  • Enhanced the functionality of the Hit List, allowing you to re-sort your search results chronologically, reverse chronologically or by relevance. For a detailed description of this enhancement, please refer to the Criminal Spectrum Help page under the "Hit List Features".
  • Provincial criminal-related legislation for New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Quebec has been added to Criminal Spectrum. The new legislation includes the provincial offences and motor vehicle legislation.
  • Advanced Legislation Search template has been enhanced to allow you to search by lettered subsections in the legislation. For example, the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedom, section 11(d).
  • PDF’s of the Canadian Criminal Cases (CCC’s) have been added to Criminal Spectrum. You can now get images of the reported decisions exactly as they appear in the CCC’s in PDF format complete with headnotes.
  • A Boolean search template that allows you to search across the entire contents of Criminal Spectrum (classification schemes, indices, full-text decisions, legislation and commentary) using Boolean query syntax.
